Full Broadcast Flake Floors in Erie, PA – Built Tough, ADA-Compliant & Cost-Smart

At 814 Epoxy and More, our full broadcast flake floors are a top choice for garages, workshops, light commercial spaces, classrooms, and multi-purpose rooms throughout Erie and Northwest Pennsylvania. We engineer every layer for real-world performance — superior moisture protection, long-term durability, easy cleaning, excellent slip resistance, and outstanding value — without cutting corners.

How We Build It (Step by Step)

  1. MVB Moisture Vapor Barrier Basecoat
We begin with a true 100% solids epoxy base rated up to
22 PSI hydrostatic pressure. This heavy-duty moisture vapor barrier blocks water vapor from rising through the concrete — preventing bubbling, peeling, and delamination that are common issues in Erie’s damp basements and garages.(Quick note: Unlike some polyurea basecoats that claim fast cure but offer poor moisture tolerance and can become dangerously slippery when wet, our epoxy MVB provides reliable vapor control and a stable foundation that stays grippy — especially important in Pennsylvania winters.)
  2. Full Flake Broadcast – 1 lb per 5.5 sq ft
    We broadcast
1 pound of premium vinyl flakes per 5.5 square feet. This precise rate delivers complete, wall-to-wall coverage without excess waste. Once the flakes are embedded, we blow off the loose material and collect it.
    Why this matters
: We save and reuse about 20% of the flake we throw down for the next job that calls for the same color or blend. The flakes we blow off remain pristine and go straight back into circulation — significantly reducing material waste and keeping your project cost lower. The flakes we scrape and sand (the ones that get damaged or contaminated) are discarded — we never put compromised flakes back into use. This ensures every reused flake is always clean, consistent, and high-quality.
That’s also why we strongly recommend our
10 signature flake color blends — they’re pre-optimized for this coverage and reuse process, giving maximum visual impact and hiding power at the lowest possible cost per square foot.
  3. Polyaspartic Topcoat Pulled Tight – Performance First
    We finish with a high-performance
slow-cure polyaspartic topcoat, pulled tight and enhanced with two key additives

  • Polypropylene — lightweight beads that provide reliable, balanced anti-skid traction (even when wet or oily)
  • Aluminum oxide — ultra-hard grit for exceptional scratch and abrasion resistance

  • Here’s the important part: aluminum oxide is much denser than the polyaspartic resin itself, so it naturally sinks and bonds deeply within the coating matrix during cure. This creates a strong, integrated wear layer that resists scratching and abrasion for years. Polypropylene, being less dense, tends to float or stay near the top — exactly where you want it for maximum slip resistance. Because we prioritize both slip resistance (polypropylene on top) and scratch resistance (aluminum oxide embedded deep), we cannot achieve optimal placement of both additives with an ultra-fast-cure polyaspartic. A quick cure locks everything in place too soon, preventing proper sinking and distribution. So we deliberately use a slow-cure polyaspartic instead. This gives the additives time to settle and bond correctly — prioritizing product performance and long-term durability over a faster turnaround. This is a tradeoff we’re willing to make every time. We’d rather deliver a floor that performs better and lasts longer than rush a job for quicker profits. You get the right result — not just a fast one.

The end result is a seamless, beautiful flake floor that resists hot tires, oil, chemicals, salt, and daily abuse — while staying easy to clean and UV-stable.

ADA Compliance – Safe & Accessible Design

Our full broadcast flake system is fully ADA-compliant for slip resistance and safe pedestrian access. The dense flake broadcast creates natural multi-directional texture, and the polyaspartic topcoat is enhanced with polypropylene and aluminum oxide to deliver a static coefficient of friction (COF) well above ADA minimums (0.6 for level surfaces and 0.8 for ramps per ADAAG and ANSI A117.1 standards).

  • Wet & dry traction: Typically 0.7–0.9+ wet / 0.8–1.0+ dry — far exceeding requirements.
  • No trip hazards: Completely seamless — no grout lines, raised edges, or loose material that could catch wheels, canes, or walkers.
  • Wheelchair & walker friendly: Smooth yet grippy surface rolls easily without excessive vibration or resistance.
  • Long-term reliability: The additives and slow-cure polyaspartic resist wear from foot traffic, salt, oil, and freeze-thaw cycles — maintaining ADA-compliant slip resistance for years.

Compared to alternatives:

  • Ceramic/Porcelain Tile: Grout lines create trip hazards and catch wheels/canes; grout erodes with salt and becomes slippery over time.
  • Vinyl Sheet/Plank: Smooth, but seams can lift with moisture/salt; traction degrades as surface wears.
  • Painted Concrete: Paint chips/peels quickly in Erie winters; becomes dangerously slick when wet.

Our flake system outperforms in consistent wet/dry traction, zero trip hazards, and long-term accessibility — especially in a climate with snow, salt, and freeze-thaw.
