About 814 Epoxy and More — Erie, PA
We didn't start in the flooring industry. We started in the dirt — learning concrete from the ground up, under people who knew it the way most contractors never will. This is that story.
Meet the 814 Crew
We are a small, tight-knit crew of locally owned and operated guys. Friends, family, and extended family don't always make the best mixes, but somehow we pull it together. All of our staff (past and present) have been friends or relatives. This has been key to our growth. You cant put a price tag on camaraderie and culture.
No corporate office. No sales team. No subcontractors. Just Erie guys who live here, work here, and pour floors the right way.
The 814 area code covers Northwest Pennsylvania — Erie, Crawford, Warren, Venango, and the surrounding region. It’s not just a phone number prefix. For anyone from here, it means something. Its identity.
We put it in our name because we’re proud to represent this city and this region. We’re not a franchise that assigns a territory to someone. We’re not a national brand that opened a local office. We are Erie. We understand lake-effect winters, freeze-thaw cycling, road salt on concrete, and what a Northwest Pennsylvania slab looks like in March. No out-of-town operation knows this region the way we do — and it shows in every floor we install.
Team:
Rob Kinnison
Project Manager & Operations
Rob handles scheduling, backend operations, and oversees projects. He’s the most experienced in the company and has years of trade experience under his belt. He's transitioning off the floor, so if you're lucky enough to see him out in the field, you're in for a treat. Anybody who has met Rob knows that, despite being built like an NFL Nose Tackle, he's the sweetest guy you'll ever meet.
John Cerula
Maintenance & Warehouse Manager / Crew Trainer & Safety
John runs maintenance and the warehouse for the company and facilitates all training and safety protocols for the crew. With years of hands-on flooring and construction experience, he keeps the operation running smoothly, makes sure all equipment is ready, and trains the guys so every job is done safely and to the highest standard. There are few people who are as mechanically sound and yet as skilled at communicating problems as he is. We are lucky to have him.
Justin Fletcher
Lead Installer / Head of Production
If we had to send a representative to the Hunger Games as our best and brightest; its justin. Like Rob, Justin has a long history of work in the trades, but unlike Rob, Justin is a bit of a fanatic and obsesses over this business, particularly making sure installs are put down with care and precision. If there is any question about this industry, this is the guy to talk to.
Joe Fletcher
Sales & Back-end Operations
Joe is the main point of contact for customers and handles sales, marketing, and lead generation. He also has hands-on experience in masonry restoration, so when he’s talking to you about your floor, he truly understands what’s under the coating and why it matters.
Where We Come From
814 Epoxy and More exists because of three guys, a masonry company, and a pair of mentors who built things to last. Joe Fletcher and Rob Kinnison didn't start their careers coating floors. They started restoring concrete — learning the trade under the late legend, Don Antonio and his son Dominic Antonio, two of the finest masonry contractors in the region. The Antonios taught them how to read concrete. How to evaluate a slab before you touch it. How to repair, restore, and rebuild rather than cover and move on. Rob and Joe cut their teeth in masonry restoration, and they've never forgotten where that foundation came from. To this day, they count Dominic among their closest professional relationships and, above that, a brother for life.
That background isn't a detail. It's the whole point. Most epoxy contractors come from the painting trade — they learned to roll products onto surfaces. Rob and Joe learned what's underneath those surfaces first. They understand what concrete does over time, how it moves, what it absorbs, and what it takes to make a coating system bond to it and stay there for fifteen years instead of three.
The drift toward coatings happened naturally. By 2018, 35% of their business at Lake Effect Home Services was resinous flooring work. By 2019, it was 75%. The market was telling them something. They listened.
In 2020, Lake Effect Home Services became 814 Epoxy and More — named for the area code, because that's exactly what they are. An Erie company, built for Erie conditions, by people who live here and know what this climate does to a floor
Why 814
The 814 area code covers Northwest Pennsylvania — Erie, Crawford, Warren, Venango, and the surrounding region. It's not just a phone number prefix. For anyone from here, it means something. Its identity.
We put it in our name because we're proud to represent this city and this region. We're not a franchise that assigns a territory to someone. We're not a national brand that opened a local office. We are Erie. We understand lake-effect winters, freeze-thaw cycling, road salt on concrete, and what a Northwest Pennsylvania slab looks like in March. No out-of-town operation knows this region the way we do — and it shows in every floor we install.
We Know This Place
Joe graduated from Central High. Rob went to McDowell. Justin went to General McLane. That's the city, the suburbs, and the county — all three of us, all 814, all still here. To some people, never leaving where you grew up isn't living. To us, it's everything we know — and we wouldn't change it. We have ten kids between us. We're not going anywhere.
A lot of our business is repeat business. Not because we run loyalty programs or send mailers. Because we see our customers at soccer games, football games, and band competitions. We see them at Wegmans. Ed Sheridan comes into the shop almost every day. Tom from Lowe's. Aaron from ISM around the corner — he walks at lunch and pops in weekly when the weather's nice. These aren't transactions. They're relationships that started with a floor and turned into something more permanent than the coating we put down.
Our Erie Insurance rep, Gary, was a customer before we were his client. Our accountant was a customer before we were his client. That's not a coincidence. That's what happens when you do good work for people you actually know, in a place you actually live.
We are the 814 because we are Erie. We always have been.
Why It Matters That We're This Crew
There are flooring contractors who show up with a crew you've never met, rolling out a one-day system they learned from a franchise manual. We are not that.
Every 814 Epoxy job has either Justin and Rob on it — two people who have been doing trades work for a combined 50+ years, who trained in masonry and concrete restoration before they ever touched a coating product, and who live and work in the same region you do. When something needs attention after the job is done, you're calling the same people who installed your floor. Not a warranty department. Not a franchise support line. Us.
The 814 name means something to us. It means we're accountable to this community in a way that no national brand or franchise operator can be. We installed floors for JM Eagle, Eriez Magnetics, Allegheny College, AHN, Slippery Rock University, Plastek Group, and dozens of homeowners and businesses across Northwest Pennsylvania. Those clients know us by name. That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every job — residential garage or industrial facility, same leadership, same accountability.
We come from concrete. Not paint. And it shows.
