Armoring Up the Fryer Room
We recently completed a tough but rewarding transformation at Mighty Fine Donuts in Erie, PA. The fryer room had seen better days, with multiple layers of old tile, wood, and underlayment that needed to come out. After carefully removing everything down to the joists, reinforcing the structure, and installing fresh ¾” tongue-and-groove sheeting, we were finally ready for the fun part — installing a floor that could handle the intense demands of a working donut shop.
Durability Above All
This floor had to be incredibly durable against constant grease from the fryers, easy to clean, and exceptionally slip-resistant even when wet. To make it happen, we poured over 2,000 pounds of Dur-a-Flex MDB monolithic broadcast basecoat blended with broadcast sand, creating a rock-solid ⅛-inch thick surface that bonds tightly to the new sheeting. We then finished it with Dur-a-Flex TF-Plus in a rich Chestnut Brown — Shari’s perfect color choice that beautifully matches both the iconic Mighty Fine Donuts logo and the deep chocolate icing on their world-famous cream-filled donuts.
The result is a floor built to laugh at the real challenges of a commercial kitchen: thermal shock from hot oil, dropped pans, grease splatter, sugar, and heavy daily use. Dur-a-Flex systems are widely regarded as some of the most durable kitchen flooring on the market, and this installation proves exactly why. From the BEFORE shot of worn-out layers to the clean, armored AFTER, the fryer room at Mighty Fine Donuts has been completely transformed. The new floor not only looks great but is engineered to stay safe, sanitary, and strong for years to come.
